From all programming languages Java is the one most lines of code (LOC) is wirtten in. More than two out of eleven LOCs are written in Java. After that we have C and C++ then PHP and C#. Thats the result from the just now published TIOBE Programming Community Index for November 2010 [1].The TIOBE index is approximated using search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, Wikipedia and YouTube. The definition can be found here [2]. The history of Java data [3] can also be seen on TIOBE’s website.

Java raised it’s “market share” a bit while C, C++, PHP, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, Delphi and Visual Basic dropped. Last one is on it’s lowest place ever. The only raises compared to twelve months ago in the top ten besides Java are C#, Python and Objective-C. Even if the language for Apple’s poducts was expected to end up better.

To full ranking including multiple tables can be found on TIOBE’s website [1]. To get more information about Java: for novices see Wikipedia’s article about Java [4].
